DIY Finishing Supplies

We carry the best stains, paints, and supplies for those who prefer to DIY right.  This is not Home Depot.  At Country Cottage you will get high quality advice, products, and most importantly, results! Our wall of finish samples goes beyond anything you will find in a hardware store.  You get to see exactly how your stain will look on the wood species you've selected.

We'll help you choose what type of stain or combination of products to use, depending on your desired results. Please note that for all of the samples shown below, the digitized colors are for reference purposes only. (Always test a stain on a hidden area to verify it's the color you want.)

Water Based Wood Stains

wood stains

Our Water Based Stains have all the advantages of oil base stains: they spread easily, can be repaired, can be blended effortlessly, and have plenty of open time. The thicker formula allows controlled penetration, which will reduce blotching on hard-to-stain woods such as Aspen, Pine and Maple. This stain formula will make wood staining an enjoyable experience for you.

Antique Wax

Antique wax

Antique Wax is a fast one-can wax finish that makes paste waxes obsolete! It is easy to apply, odorless, non-combustible, fade resistant, dries in 20 minutes, and is made right here in the USA by the friendly folks at GF. The smooth creamy formula glides on with incredible ease! Because it dries in 20 minutes for recoating, you can apply multiple coats and still be finished in hours. High use flat surfaces like dining tables and desks will develop the patina of every day life over time. We recommend wood stain or clear finishes to our customers who are patina-adverse.

Oil Based Polyurethanes and Sealers

Arm-R-Seal Urethane Topcoat
Arm-R-Seal topcoats are made with only the highest quality urethane resin, making them extremely durable and long lasting. Available in Satin, Semi-Gloss, and Gloss, they are formulated to be wiped on with a cloth or applied with a foam brush, thus eliminating drips and sags.  They penetrate to provide deep down protection and that " natural" look. For more information about Oil Based Finishes, visit General Finishes

Seal-A-Cell Clear
An unusual combination of oils and urethanes, Seal-A-Cell Clear for decades has served craftsman as the best way to get the  that "natural" look on beautiful woods that aren't to be stained. The oils penetrate deep within the wood to highlight the warm natural look and the urethane insures a deep hardness. Follow with multiple coats of Arm-R-Seal topcoat. Seal-A-Cell can be wiped on or applied with a foam brush.
